Calgary officer convicted of aggravated assault from 2015 arrest
CALGARY – A Calgary Police Service officer has been convicted of aggravated assault for a violent arrest on a handcuffed suspect.
The family of Daniel Haworth, who has since died, says he suffered brain damage during his 2015 arrest.
Const. Trevor Lindsay had testified he struck the suspect three times because he was worried about biting, head-butting, kicking, spitting and knee strikes from him.
Queen’s Bench Justice Michael Lema rejected that testimony, saying he found the level of force used by Lindsay unnecessary and excessive.
