Preparation for Sports Development Conference well underway

Back in March the Grande Prairie Sport Connection announced they would be hosting their first ever sport conference in Grande Prairie in the fall.

Fast forward a couple of months and the planning for the Alberta North Sport Conference is well underway.

Executive Director Karna Germsheid spoke to EverythingGP about the Conference and what the theme of the event will be.

“The Conference theme is safe and welcoming sport. Some of the speakers that we have secured is Wayne McNeil with Respect Group and we have the Sport and Law Strategy Group. We have speakers who are going to talking about abuse and bullying in sport.”

Prior to the Sport Connection establishing the Alberta North Sport Conference, members of associations or sports groups would have to travel to Edmonton, Calgary, or even further to learn from higher-ups in the sports industry.

This is part of the reason why Germsheid believes the Conference in Grande Prairie will not only be a big success, but also extremely beneficial to the growth of sport in the Peace Country.

“The great thing about this Conference is that 90% of the people in our region are not paid to manage their sport. We are talking about thousands of volunteers that are making this happen. They don’t have the opportunity like I would to travel to places like Ottawa, Edmonton, Banff or wherever to attend these conferences and acquire this type of information.”

Throughout the summer, the Sport Connection will be continuing to not only secure speakers for the event, but also lock down sponsorship from in and around the community.

The Alberta North Sport Conference is set for November.
