Highway Speeding

Drivers in High Level area asked to slow down on highways

Jun 26, 2019 | 5:25 PM

Alberta RCMP are reminding drivers that are eager to return home in the High Level area that they need to keep their speed at legal levels.

RCMP say in a release that they have pulled over a number of drivers in recent days on northern Alberta highways travelling at or above 155 km/h.

This notice was prompted due to the fact that fire crews are still battling two out of control wildfires in the area and may be working close to the roadway. Visibility may also be inhibited due to the smoke from the fires.

Some safe driving reminders the RCMP ask drivers to keep in mind include:

  • Turning on headlights
  • Respecting the posted speed limits
  • Obeying posted road signs
  • Staying focused on the road and following instructions provided by local authorities and emergency personnel

Those returning home after being evacuated can expect to see increased traffic on area highways while the fires continue to burn. RCMP ask for patience behind the wheel during that time.
