Three Gold Medals won by Grande Prairie Lacrosse Association at Provincials

Jul 15, 2019 | 11:48 AM

It was a big weekend for the Grande Prairie Lacrosse Association as they were in Calgary for provincials.

When all was said and done, the Association won three gold medals and every club earned a least one win.

“We’re really excited about how the weekend at provincials played out for us,” stated Ron Regnier President of the Grande Prairie Lacrosse Association.

“Every team we sent down had at least one win. That isn’t the focus for the kids. We want the kids to learn a new skill, we want them to have fun, and some team building. At the end of the day, if they learn the skills and it turns into a win, we are really excited about it.”

Both the Tyke’s and Bantam’s picked up gold medals after both went the entire season undefeated.

Also earning gold was Grande Prairie’s Peewee team, who also won at provincials last year.

The Association has come a long way in the past couple of years and Regnier shared he is quite proud of the growth of the sport in the Swan City.

“All of the volunteers we have to make this possible. This is my tenth year and I remember when we had 30 players one of our years. We had teams without a single win in an entire season. To see the progression and to see the skill level of the coaches increase and the players increase it just makes me really proud of how it has all come together.”

The Association will now begin planning for the 2020 season.

They will begin holding their drop-in sessions in September.
