Blue-Green Algae

Blue-green algae found in Bear Lake

Jul 22, 2019 | 2:44 PM

Alberta Health Services says blue-green algae has been found in parts of Bear Lake.

People are being asked to avoid all contact with any blooms and not to go in the water where blue-green algae is present.

People are also advised to limit how much fish they eat and not to allow pets to eat any fish from a lake where there is blue-green algae.

Contact with it can lead to things like skin irritation and sore, red eyes,

Ingesting water can make people sick to their stomaches.

Boiling the water does not get rid of the toxins the algae produces.

Anyone who thinks they may have a health issue related to blue-green algae is advised to call Health Link at 811.
