Grant Funding

City, province partnering to offer collaboration grant

Jul 29, 2019 | 5:30 AM

A Collaboration Grant is now available for organizations in Grande Prairie that are working to make a positive social difference in the community.

The City of Grande Prairie and the Alberta Government’s Family and Community Supports Services have partnered to offer a Collaboration Grant: Building Capacity for Collaboration and Systems Transformation Funding.

The grant is meant to create cross-sector partnerships to address issues such as homelessness, bullying, mental health and addictions.

Community Development Supervisor with the City of Grande Prairie Brenda Adams says the funding is a great resource for local groups.

“To make meaningful change and work together to address an issue in the community, or make positive change,” said Adams. “The funding is intended to be flexible and adaptable, and to facilitate learning, together. So, we learn together as a community and we come together and work together for change, instead of working in silos.”

Total funding will be in the amount of $72,000 and will be paid over a year long period, between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020. That amount may go to one group, or will be dispersed to several different groups, depending on the number and level of applications.

To be eligible for this grant funding, two or more organizations must be working together and be listed on the application. A minimum of one of those groups in the joint application must be a registered non-profit in Alberta, that operates within the City of Grande Prairie. Applications must also meet FCSS eligibility.

Though this is the first year the grant has been offered in the Swan City, Adams says that this grant is something that has worked well in other communities.

“That’s where we got the model from. So, that is why we decided to move forward, to have the community work together with for-profit and not-for-profit.”

Any groups interested in applying are encouraged to attend an information session at the Community Social Development office on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Applications can be submitted through the City’s website.

“I think the community is quite excited about this,” said Adams. “We’re looking forward to a lot of applicants.”
