Forty-year high for area burned by wildfires reached in Alberta

Alberta officials say wildfires this year have burned an area larger than Banff National Park and displaced about 15-thousand people.
Alberta Wildfire says fires that burned between March and June consumed more than 800-thousand hectares — the largest area burned in any year in the past four decades.
A request for proposal posted to the Alberta government’s tendering website last week says the province is looking for an external consultant to evaluate part of the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry’s wildfire management program.
That’s part of a review it plans to conduct on its wildfire preparation and response.
