The heavy rainfall in recent days has done some significant damage to a stretch of Township Road 711 (southwest of Grande Prairie), where the road crosses Spring Creek.

With that, effective at 4 p.m. Wednesday between Range Roads 71 and 72, the road will be closed for repairs until further notice.

Work has already begun to start fixing the damage to the road, but as of Wednesday afternoon the road will be completely closed off to traffic.

Drivers can detour using Range Road 73 and Township Road 710 to access Range Road 72. They can use Range Road 71 to access Township Road 712.

Heavy traffic should stay away from that area and detour using Highway 40 and Highway 43.

Meantime, paving work is now underway along a 3.4 km stretch of Township Road 742, between Highway 2 and the Spruce Villa Estates subdivision. Paving will also be completed on 1.8 km of road within the subdivision.

The County says in a release that they expect that work will be done by mid-October but is weather dependent.

Drivers may see minor delays during the project and speed will be reduced in the construction zone. Motorists are reminded to obey all signage and watch for flag persons and crews working in the area.
