Stoby claims bronze at World Junior Mixed Martial Arts Championships

It was a great long weekend for Grande Prairie’s Ian Stoby as he represented Canada at the inaugural World Junior Mixed Martial Arts Championships in Rome.

Stoby competed in the A division among 16 and 17-year-olds at the 155 lb weight category.

In his first MMA competition, Stoby would walk away with the bronze medal.

This medal adds to an impressive resume which Stoby has accumulated during his combat sports career.

Other past achievements include;

– Gold medal and best youth boxer award at the 2017 Albert Provincial boxing championships Junior 60kg

– Gold medals Capital City Championships Brazilian Jujitsu and NoGi submission grappling 65kg

– Gold medal Sparing ITF Taekwon-do Open Worlds Championships Netherlands 2017 65kg

– Gold medal sparing ITF Taekwon-do North American Championships New York USA 2018 70 kg

– Gold medal sparing CHITF Taekwon-do world championships Melbourne Australia 2019 70kg

Stoby was also named Junior Athlete of the Year at the 2017 Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards.
