CALGARY – A Calgary man who police say had ties to a youth basketball initiative is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy he had coached and sponsored through the Keepers’ Club International.

Police began investigating this past June after a teen alleged he had inappropriate sexual contact with someone who was in a position of trust.

Investigators say a man purchased a number of personal items for the teen and provided transportation to and from sporting events, games and tournaments.

They allege the boy was sexually assaulted at the man’s Calgary home on a number of occasions during a 12-month period, starting in June 2018.

Junny Gallaza, who is 59, was arrested on Wednesday.

He will be in court Aug. 21 on charges that also include sexual interference, sexual exploitation, invitation to sexual touching and obtaining sexual services for consideration.
