Bear Creek Folk Festival starts tonight

Aug 16, 2019 | 5:30 AM

The fourth edition of the Bear Creek Folk Festival will start at 6:30 this evening in Muskoseepi Park.

Producer Sarah Card says it has come a long way since it first started.

“Over the last couple of years, we have just seen such an increase and a rise in community support and attendance. Ticket sales this year, despite the weather, we’ve really managed to break records with our ticket sales, which we are really excited about. It’s just such an amazing ‘coming together’ of community that we’ve seen happen over the last couple of years.”

She adds between 500 and 600 hundred volunteers split into 33 teams are working the Festival this year.

“It’s hundreds of volunteers that put together this event. Over 20,000 hours of volunteer hours go into making this event happen.”

Card says anyone who can’t afford a ticket can still volunteer and see the festival that way. Check here if interested..

Card adds some tents will be set up on the grounds this year.

“We have decided to cover the beer gardens, so we’ve got three enormous tents, covering a huge percentage of the beer garden. We’re working on trying to get that heated as well. If there are moments when it starts to sprinkle, you can get under those tents. We’ve also added hot beverages to the beer gardens, as well. Then for families, who aren’t able to go into that area, there are a number of other tents on the site.”

Card says there will a kids tent with soap stone carving, kids crafts, and other activities. She recommends people come prepared for any kind of weather.
