CALGARY – Police in Calgary say a man has been charged after a downtown crosswalk supporting the gender and sexually diverse community was vandalized.
The rainbow crossing was defaced on Sunday morning with words advocating violence towards the LGBTQ community.
Investigators say there is enough evidence to proceed with the case as a hate crime and it is to be designated to a specialized crime Crown prosecutor.
Kevin James Gavel, who is 54 and from Calgary, is charged with one count of mischief and is next to appear in court on Oct. 1.
