Update: Three people dead after crash in southern Alberta

Aug 21, 2019 | 12:26 PM

RCMP say three people are now confirmed dead after yesterday’s fiery 10-vehicle crash in southeastern Alberta.

Ten other people were injured — two of them critically — when the collision happened on Highway 9 between the communities of Cereal and Chinook.

Mounties say three transports and seven passenger vehicles were involved in the accident, which triggered a massive fire and a brief evacuation order for the hamlet of Chinook.

Hazardous material teams are at the scene and police expect it will be weeks before the investigation into the crash is complete.
