Storm begin pre-season in Vernon

Aug 23, 2019 | 8:10 AM

After almost a full week of training camp the Grande Prairie Storm will get their first test in exhibition action Friday night as they begin a three-game road trip in British Columbia.

The Storm will battle the Vernon Vipers Friday night and then head to Trail for a pair of games Saturday and Sunday.

General Manager Mark Bomersback shared to EverythingGP that these contests will be great tests for their young hockey club.

“It is going to be good competition. Trail is expected to be a good team this year and so is Vernon. So we are going to go down there and see where we kind of stack up and see where we are going to be.”

It’s not too often the Storm venture this far away from the Swan City for their exhibition schedule, but as Bomersback explains, it is a great opportunity for the new members of the Storm to bond and grow as a team.

“They reached out to me saying they wanted to get us down there and give this a try. If all goes well, maybe next year they come up here for a couple of games. It is a going to be a good trip for us. It allows the veteran guys to get to know the new recruits and vice versa.”

The Storm will face the Vipers Friday night at 7:00 p.m. PST.

This will be the first game of the pre-season for both clubs.

In other Storm news the club has announced Jackson Wozniak as Captain for the 2019-2020 season.
