Bullets and Broadheads to host grand opening Saturday

Grande Prairie’s very first indoor shooting range, archery and axe throwing centre is hosting its grand opening today.

Bullets and Broadheads will be hosting the celebration of their new hunting and outdoor store from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, located across 100 street from the Prairie Mall.

It was a lengthy and time-consuming project for Owner Robin Coward to make his dream a reality. After nearly three years of work, the store and facility opened to the public four months ago. Coward is now looking forward to having a big bash to celebrate this one-of-a-kind facility.

“We’re going to have some bouncy castles here for the kids, we’re going to have live music, we’re going to have some elk calling demonstrations by Swift Game Calls here tomorrow,” said Coward. “Then later in the afternoon, we’re actually going to have an elk calling competition as well.”

“It’ll be a lot of fun, it’s a big day.”

This facility is unlike many others before it, offering a wide range of services to peak the interests of many user groups in the area. Beyond it’s 10,000 square feet of retail space, the facility comes equipped with two indoor shooting ranges, as well as a full archery range.

Upon doing his due diligence prior to opening the facility, Coward found that there was really nothing quite like what they have developed at Bullets and Broadheads.

“As far as we know, we are an original facility in Canada,” said Coward. “When we were doing our research, we went to a lot of ranges in the (United) States, we went through all the ones in Alberta and we didn’t see anything that was like this.”

Further adding to the uniqueness of the facility is a full axe throwing range, which is something currently not offered to Grande Prairie area residents. Not only has Coward built a range for axe throwing, they’ve tied themselves in with the World Axe Throwing League.

“Starting in September, we’ll be starting league nights, which is a lot of fun,” said Coward. “Leagues run eight weeks long, and you get four axe throwing matches per night.”

“If you win and do well in our league playdowns, you can actually move on to regional play like the Canadian finals and on to the nationals, which are known as the Arnold Classic.”
