All eyes are now turning to the regular season, as the Storm finished off the pre-season on a high note Thursday night at Revolution Place.

The Storm got goals from Ethan Strang, Brody Dale and Jackson Wozniak, while Kaeden Lane stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced to defeat the Whitecourt Wolverines 3-1 to close out their exhibition schedule.

The win sends the Storm into the regular season with a 5-1 record through the pre-season, which included a sweep of the home-and-home set with their Highway 43 rivals.

The Grande Prairie bunch started out a little slow in the first period, which saw the Wolverines strike first, as Garin Butler put one over the blocker-side shoulder of Lane midway through the opening frame, giving the visitors the early lead.

That lead didn’t last long, as the Storm answered back nearly five minutes later with Strang burying his third of the pre-season, to send both teams to the locker room tied at one after one.

Dale struck late in the second period to give the Storm the lead, taking a nice feed in the slot from fellow newcomer Sam Erkkila to make it 2-1 after two.

The Wolverines were able to apply the pressure in the third, but Lane turned aside all 12 shots he faced in the final frame. Wozniak, the Storm’s new captain, made it 3-1 late in the final frame after being found wide open in front for his third of the exhibition schedule.

The team now has a full week to prepare their final roster and look ahead to the regular season opener, which goes on September 13 in Fort McMurray.

They’ll play their first three games on the road, with their home opener going September 20 against the Lloydminster Bobcats.
