Tenille Townes goes 4 for 4 at Canadian Country Music Awards

Grande Prairie’s Tenille Townes cleaned up at the Canadian Country Music Awards.

She went four for four including winning Single of the Year for her breakout hit Somebody’s Daughter.

“This (song) is about looking out for each other, and it was inspired by a drive I took with my beautiful mom, and we saw this girl standing on the side of the Interstate holding onto a cardboard sign. Everybody’s got a story, so thank you for looking out for each other out there,” Townes said while accepting the award for Single of the Year.

She also won Female Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Video of the Year.

“Thank you so much to the CCMA’s. I am just so proud and grateful to be a part of this country music family,” she said. “And I am so proud to be a Grande Prairie, Alberta girl.”

“I grew up signing along to Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Terri Clark, Pam Tillis, Shania Twain, singing along in the back seat of the car,” an emotional Townes told the crowd as she fought back tears. “And this is for all the little girls out there singing along, please don’t give up on those dreams.”

Townes also performed Somebody’s Daughter at the awards show Sunday evening.

There was plenty of other Peace Region talent at the CCMA’s. Aaron Goodvin from Spirit River and High Valley from La Crete, who were also nominated but did not win, both performed at the event.

Grande Prairie’s Jordan Leaf and Wembley’s Chance Tomke also played showcases over CCMA weekend in Calgary.

Townes will be in Grande Prairie this Saturday for Big Hearts for Big Kids, the event she founded that raises money for Sunrise House. Big Hearts for Big Kids will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year and has raised over $1.5 million so far for the local youth shelter.
