A pair of late third period goals powered the Fort McMurray Oil Barons to a 5-3 win over the Grande Prairie Storm in the 2019 AJHL season opener for both teams.

The Storm took a 2-1 lead into the dressing room after the first period, on the strength of goals from Ethan Strang and Jackson Savoie.

The hometown Oil Barons would take a 3-2 lead by the halfway point of the second, but a power play goal from Strang would even the game up heading into the third.

Jonathan Assayag scored the winner for the MOB with 4:48 left in the third, while Logan Bromhead iced it with an empty netter.

Kaiden Lane made 29 saves in the Storm goal.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night at 7:30, also in Fort McMurray.
