Storm Bounce Back to earn Season Opening Split

Sep 15, 2019 | 10:12 AM

Grande Prairie Storm are returning home with a split from their season opening road trip to Fort McMurray.

After a 5-3 loss on Friday night, the Storm bounced back with a 3-1 triumph over the Oil Barons on Saturday night.

Cade Mason opened the scoring in the first period for the Storm, as the Red Deer product picked up his first career AJHL goal.

They doubled their advantage in the second as 20 year old Brody Dale found the back of the net.

Oil Barons’ captain Ryan Conroy would get the home side back within one before the end of the second, but another Storm rookie would pick up his first career AJHL goal, as Sam Erkkila scored halfway through the third to secure the win.

After managing just 12 shots on goal on Friday night, the Storm peppered Oil Barons goalie Josh Dias with 31 shots on Saturday.

At the opposite end of the ice, Lars Kaliel made 25 saves to earn the win.

The Storm will host Lloydminster in their 2019-20 home opener on Friday night.
