Fatal house fire in Edmonton overnight

One person is dead after an overnight house fire in Edmonton.

Firefighters responded when neighbours reported flames and heavy smoke coming from a two-storey home in a northeast neighbourhood shortly after 3 a.m.

District fire chief Rob Garth says a body was found inside the house after crews quickly got the blaze under control.

Garth could not confirm the victim’s gender.

No one else was hurt and no other properties were damaged.
