Storm host Bobcats for home opening weekend

The Grande Prairie Storm return to Revolution Place Friday night for their first home game of the new season, as the Lloydminster Bobcats invade the Swan City for a double header.

The Storm are coming off a season opening three-game road swing, which saw them drop their opener last Friday in Fort McMurray but did bounce back with a win in the back half of the double header with the Oil Barons last Saturday.

The team closed out the trip with a 2-1 shootout win in Whitecourt over the Wolverines on Tuesday.

The Storm entertain a Bobcats team this weekend that they had little trouble with last season. Grande Prairie swept the season series with the Border City, winning all six meetings. The Bobcats were the lone team in the North Division to miss the post-season last year.

The Bobcats are off to a slow start this year as well, as they currently sit at 0-3, following two losses to Sherwood Park and one to Spruce Grove to open the season.

Friday night’s game also marks the return of defenceman Kaeden Tenkoppel to Revolution Place. The Storm traded the 19-year-old to the Bobcats just before the beginning of the regular season for future considerations.

Tenkoppel has one assist in two games with his new club so far this year.

Puck drop tonight is at 7:30 p.m. Game time on Saturday for the second half of the double header is also 7:30.

The team will also be hosting a tailgate party pre-game on Friday. Festivities get underway at 5:00 p.m. with a BBQ (free burgers for the first 300 fans), live music and a chance to meet the players before the game.
