Grande Prairie’s Lambert scores first career WHL goal

Oct 3, 2019 | 9:07 AM

Grande Prairie’s Edge Lambert is on the board in the Western Hockey League.

Lambert, currently playing for the Tri-City Americans, slipped a shot by Kelowna Rocket’s goaltender Roman Basran late in the second period, scoring his first career WHL goal on Wednesday night. The goal was one of the few bright spots for the Americans, as they were thumped 6-1 in the game.

Lambert becomes the second Grande Prairie product to score a goal for the Americans this year. Paycen Bjorklund, playing in his third season with Tri-City, scored his first of the season back on Saturday against the Spokane Chiefs. Lambert and Bjorklund were last teammates in 2014-15 with the GPAC Bantam AAA squad.

Lambert was signed by the Storm this past offseason, but made the Americans roster out of training camp in September. He had previously played in two games with the Prince George Cougars last season.

He and Bjorklund are two of six Grande Prairie products currently on a WHL roster. They are joined by Jace Isley (Red Deer Rebels), Kjell Kjemhus (Saskatoon Blades), as well as Austin Schellenberg and Reece Harsch (Winnipeg ICE).
