Celtics score three touchdowns late in first half, beat Sabres
The Sexsmith Sabres had the lead at one point, but it didn’t last long.
The Sabres took a one touchdown lead midway through the second quarter, but ultimately fell to the St Joe’s Celtic’s 38-13 at CKC Field Friday evening in Mighty Peace Football League action.
The game was tied 7-7 when the Sabres put a nice drive together, culminating in a two yard touchdown run at the 6:24 mark of the second quarter. The snap was mishandled on the extra point, making it 13-7 for Sexsmith.
Though the Sabres defence had held firm through the early part of the game, the number two ranked team in all of Tier II football could only be held off for so long. On the ensuing Celtics drive, they marched down field, punching in a rushing touchdown of their own while adding the extra point, going up 14-13 with just over two minutes to go in the first half.
