Vipers, Navigators pick up wins in Friday night NWJHL play

The Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers jumped out to a 6-2, second period lead, and then hung on for a 6-5 win over the defending champion Fort St John Huskies in NWJHL play on Friday,

Tanner Vinck, Justin Doucette, Payton Lappenbush, Larry Yellowknee, Jordan Bartlett, and Mikael Chalifoux scored for the Vipers, while netminder Tyson Walker made 45 saves to pick up the win.

Jareed Winkel scored twice for the Huskies, while Gary Loewen, Dean Whitcomb and Chase London added singles.

Meanwhile, in Peace River, league scoring leader Robert Lemay scored twice, including the winner with over seven minutes left in the third period, as the North Peace Navigators came back from a 3-1 deficit to get by the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks 4-3.

Cole Isaac and Dawson Gour also scored for the Navs, while Chase Henrickson, Tanner Bahm, and Brandon Rowley scored for the Junior Canucks.

All six teams in the league see action on Saturday night, as the County JDA Kings visit Fort St John, Sexsmith is in Fairview, and North Peace and Dawson Creek hook up for the second night in a row – this time in the BC Peace.
