Alberta man receives voting card despite lack of Canadian citizenship

Oct 10, 2019 | 3:19 PM

An Alberta man who doesn’t have Canadian citizenship says he has received a voting card from Elections Canada for the October 21 federal election.

Paul Gabriel of Beiseker has lived in the province for 19 years, but says he intends to remain a British national.

He says he didn’t think much of the mistake until a co-worker also received a card despite not holding citizenship.

Gabriel says he expects the person preparing his tax returns incorrectly ticked the box indicating that Gabriel was a Canadian.

Elections Canada says it continually updates its national registry and its voting list is 93 per cent accurate.
