It’s a bronze medal for Dani Smith and the Canadian Women’s Volleyball team at the Continental Cup.

The Beaverlodge product and her squad swept the host Puerto Ricans on Sunday (26-24, 25-13, 25-20) to claim the bronze. It is the 11th time Canada has medaled at the event, and the first time since 1999.

The Domincan Republic claimed gold with a 3-2 win over the U.S. later that evening.

The podium finish is an added bonus for the Canadian’s week in San Juan, as they clinched a spot in the North American qualifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a win on Friday against Mexico in the quarterfinals.

Canada will take part in the four-team qualifying tournament in January with the Dominican Republic (Host), Puerto Rico and Mexico. The winner of the tournament will claim a spot in the summer games, of which Canada has not taken part in since the 1996 games in Atlanta.

The qualifying tournament goes from January 10-12 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
