Tough October

Storm fall to Crusaders, drop sixth straight game

The struggle continues for the Grande Prairie Storm.

The Sherwood Park Crusaders snuck three unanswered goals behind Kaeden Lane in the second period, as the home side defeated the Storm 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The loss now increases the Storm’s losing streak to six games.

The Crusaders got on the board first, as Arjun Atwal scored his eighth of the season at 6:44 of the opening period, finishing a one-time feed in front.

Carter Myrol would answer for the Storm late in the period, as he poked in the loose puck in front of the Crusaders net in a scramble. The goal was Myrol’s second of the year, in just his fifth game since joining the club from Midget AAA earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Lane stood strong in the second period, making a pair of outstanding saves to keep the Storm in it, but the three goals allowed in the period were too much for the Storm to overcome. Lane finished the game with 33 saves.

In addition to their six-game losing streak, the Storm have also dropped six straight games on the road. The team will also certainly be glad to get out of the month of October, as they finished the first full month of the AJHL regular season with a record of 1-8-1.

The team now sits in sixth in the Viterra North Division, with a record of 6-11-1.

The Storm will look for a fresh start as the calendar flips to November, in which the team will start off at home on the 1st and 2nd as they host the Bonnyville Pontiacs for a pair of games.
