Junction Point rail crossing closed permanently says CN

Nov 1, 2019 | 5:30 AM

Canadian National Railway says safety concerns led to the closure of a Grande Prairie rail crossing.

CN says in an email to EverythingGP that the Junction Point crossing, just east of the intersection of 97 Avenue and Resources Road, had to be closed.

The company says in that same email that it is a private crossing, making the landowners responsible for the costs of keeping it maintained.

CN goes on to claim that since the railway could not get an agreement in place with the landowners to maintain it in what they term “a safe and usable state “, it had to be closed.

CN adds the crossing is closed permanently.

We have reached out to the landowners, of which there are several as every building has a different owner, through a property management company, as well as contacting the Downtown Association, and are still hoping to hear back from them.

The city tells us in an email that since this crossing is on private land, this issue is between CN and the property owners
