Poor road conditions

Be cautious on icy roads in and around city: RCMP

Nov 5, 2019 | 12:25 PM

The mix of rain, followed by snowfall and now freezing temperatures is making for slick roads both in and around the city today. With that, the RCMP are reminding drivers to drive to the conditions and slow down.

RCMP list a number of things people should check off before they drive in these types of conditions. Those include:

  • Completely clear all windows of snow, ice and frost
  • Have your lights on in reduced visibility
  • Reduce your speed
  • Give yourself more time to get to where you are going

We received multiple reports Tuesday morning of slippery and icy sections across the Peace Country, especially on Highway 40. 511 Alberta says, as of 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday, that it is covered with snow and ice with reduced visibility. Please do drive with care.

In the City, snow removal crews are out working on priority one and two roads. Those include main arteries around the city for the safety of emergency service vehicles and city buses.
