Flyers thump Vipers ahead of league showcase

Nov 7, 2019 | 9:38 AM

The Fairview Flyers had themselves a rather big night at the Fairplex.

Zacheri Schlachter had two goals and two assists, and Rylee Hebert finished with five helpers, as the Flyers thumped the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers 11-4 in Wednesday night NWJHL action.

Schlachter and Hebert assisted on the games first two goals, scored by Sage Joachim and Cale Fox, to give the home side a 2-0 lead 7:05 into the opening frame. They’d hold a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes.

Both sides then broke loose for a wild, seven goal second period. Kail Magnusson scored twice for Sexsmith in the period, but they would still trail 7-4 heading into the third.

The Flyers would cruise to victory from there, adding four more in the final frame to win their eighth game of the campaign.

This was the second high scoring affair of the year between these two clubs, as the Flyers claimed a 9-6 win, also in Fairview, over the Vipers back on October 5.

Fairview now sits in a three-way tie for second in the league standings with both

North Peace and Dawson Creek, with identical 8-4-1 records. The Vipers sit in last place, with a record of 3-8-2.

Next up is the NWJHL showcase from the Crosslink County Sportsplex this weekend. Action gets started with the All Star Game on Friday night. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
