Storm look to end skid against visiting MOB

The Grande Prairie Storm continue a four-game homestand tonight as they welcome the Fort McMurray Oil Barons to Revolution Place.

The theme for the Storm heading into tonight’s game is simple: get back in the win column.

The team is riding an eight-game losing skid (0-7-1 during that stretch) and haven’t won a game since October 9.

“We can expect this out of a young team – the ups and downs – but not down this long.” said Head Coach Matt Keillor, following the team’s loss in their last game on Saturday to Bonnyville.

“We are really hoping that the only way they are going to crawl out of it is to look inside of themselves and do it.”

The timing might be just right for Keillor’s young squad to get themselves out of their funk. The Oil Barons visit the Swan City as losers of three straight themselves and were thumped 8-3 by the Whitecourt Wolverines at home on Saturday in their last game.

This game will also be the third meeting of the season between the two clubs, the first of which to be played at Revolution Place. The two teams split a season opening series in Fort Mac on September 13-14.

The Storm will be looking to get out of their slump without defenceman Jason Chu, as the team shipped the 18-year-old to the Calgary Canucks yesterday for future considerations.

Chu joined the team following a trade from the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL back at the beginning of September. He scored a goal and added three helpers in his 15 games as a member of the Storm.

Puck drop tonight is at 7:30. It’ll be the only game of the Remembrance Day long weekend for the Storm, who will then close out their homestand on Tuesday night against Whitecourt.
