Court update: Guilty pleas in Grande Prairie sexual interference and counterfeiting cases

Nov 22, 2019 | 4:30 AM

A Grande Prairie court case involving charges of sexual assault and sexual interference has resulted in a six-year jail sentence.

The suspect pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual interference and one of an indecent act with someone under age 16 November 15.

The original charges included the two of sexual interference and two more each of sexual assault and adult sexual exploitation of a young person.

The charges and arrest came after a report of a sexual assault to Grande Prairie RCMP in June of 2016.

A court-ordered publication ban protects the identities of all of the people involved.

Two suspects in counterfeiting arrest plead guilty

Alberta Justice says the two people charged after a counterfeiting and forgery arrest in Grande Prairie earlier this year have been given jail sentences.

Jennifer Beulah White from Bluesky pleaded guilty to five of the close to 60 counts she was facing November 13 in Grande Prairie court. The guilty pleas were for one count each of possession of counterfeiting materials, possession of stolen property, possession of fake identity documents, forgery, and possession of a controlled substance. She was given a three-year sentence to cover these charges, plus others stemming from two other arrests which involved similar charges.

Kellie Laverne Ominayak was given a year in jail after also pleading guilty to five charges. Those also included possession of stolen property, possession of fake identity documents, forgery, plus another count of intent to avoid arrest.

The pair were arrested on January 2 this year after Grande Prairie RCMP stopped a vehicle with a suspected stolen license plate in the parking lot of a north end business. Mounties found counterfeit cheques, fake ID cards, tools used in counterfeiting, cash, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Drug charges dropped against Grande Prairie man

Alberta Justice says charges against a Grande Prairie man charged after an ALERT drug bust in August of last year have been withdrawn.

Joseph Collicutt was one of the people taken in as part of ALERT’s Project Entry which targeted what police describe as Outlaw Bikers.

Police made nearly a dozen arrests in connection with what is described as a cocaine distribution network that operated in five communities, including Grande Prairie.

Charges were also withdrawn against two other accused Another, Anton Petrowitz of Calgary has been given a two-year jail sentence, while still another, Clinton Thomas from Parkland County, one year after pleading guilty to drug charges. Three others are awaiting trial. That includes a man from Spruce Grove named William McCabe who police say is a member of the Hell’s Angels and another man from Cold Lake, Pascal Jacques, who is believed to be part of the Dirty Few Lakeland support chapter. The third person awaiting trial is Theresa Acker, who is also from Spruce Grove.
