Charges laid in stolen jewelry case from September

Dec 3, 2019 | 1:07 PM

The Grande Prairie RCMP have laid charges against a man connected to a case of stolen jewelry dating back to September.

During a traffic stop in Clairmont on September 30, a male driver of a vehicle provided the officer with a false name. When he was told he was being put under arrest for obstruction of justice, he tried to flee on foot. Officers apprehended the man, who was subsequently identified as Adam Lougheed.

A search of his vehicle found jewelry that had been stolen from a business in Fort Nelson, BC, a few days prior. The jewelry, valued at approximately $9,100 dollars, has since been returned to the owner.

Lougheed, a 36-year-old man with no fixed address, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, obstructing a peace officer, and resisting arrest.

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Lougheed was released to appear in court. A warrant for his arrest has now been issued in relation to this case, along with other outstanding charges.

Anyone with information on this case or the whereabouts of Lougheed are asked to contact the RCMP at 780-830-5701, or report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The RCMP also wants to remind the public of the importance of reporting crimes to police, as well as recording serial numbers and marking property, which makes it more identifiable in the case of loss or theft.
