UPDATE: Rycroft water system activated; state of local emergency still in place
After beginning work early this morning, crews in the Village of Rycroft have repaired the break in the water line. With that, the village water system began running again around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The state of local emergency and boil water advisory remain in effect and at this time, the village is reminding residents to not drink the water.
As Mayor Diahann Potrebenko noted earlier today, the water must be sent for lab testing, where results will take 24-48 hours. The village will have to wait at least another 24 hours after the lab tests to confirm the water is potable and safe for human consumption.
The water lines contain air at this time, so spotty and discoloured water upon first opening taps is normal. Open taps slowly and regular water flow will follow soon after.
