Margaret Surprenant (nee Richard) of Grande Prairie AB, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019, in the care of the
QEII Hospital at the age of 72.
Jeanne Marguerite Richard was born October 2, 1946 to Raymond Amos Richard and Beatrice Jeannie Richard (nee Pitts), in Charlo’s Cove, Guysborough County, NS.
She graduated from Guysborough High School in 1965. Shortly after, she met and married Thomas Slaney, the father of her three children. In 1972 they moved their family to St. Lawrence, NL. In 1975,
they began their family business together, Slaney’s Bus Service. They remained in the town of St. Lawrence, where they raised Warren, Aaron and Rosa.
Margaret graduated with a business diploma from Keyin Tech College in 1993. Shortly after in 1996, Margaret and her children began their voyage to Grande Prairie, AB. After moving to Grande Prairie, she went back to school to upgrade her business diploma. In 2002 she started her employment
with Rosenau Transport Ltd., where she remained until her passing.
Margaret met and married Bill Surprenant in 2005. She loved and cared for him until his passing in 2018.
Margaret loved life and enjoyed making everyone happy. She was always impeccably dressed and ready to share her smile and laughter with everyone. She had such a zest for life, she was always up for a night of dancing, or spending her summers chasing jamborees with her sisters and friends. She also enjoyed reading a good book or cooking a delicious meal for her family. Her children and her grandchildren were the loves of her life.
Anyone who knew her, loved her. She was such a wonderful example of kindness, love, and forgiveness to us all. Her famous words of wisdom to all were “One Day At A Time”.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Beatrice Richard and her husband Bill Surprenant.
She is survived, loved and missed by her children: Warren Slaney (Lindsey Ogden), Aaron Slaney (Tiffany Hatch), and Rosa Harnett (Leslie J.
Harnett); her grandchildren: Shane Slaney, Kayla Slaney, Leslie M. Harnett, Tristen Slaney, Dayton Hatch, and
Wyatt Hatch; her brothers and sisters: Raymond (Betty) Richard, Beulah (Archie) Avery, Sandra Cashin, Ruth
Richard, Glenn (Beverly) Richard; her nieces and nephews: Ronald, Adrian, and Clayton Richard, Julian and Nadine Avery, Lisa, Shane and
Crystal Surette, Sonia McEachern, Kathy Conway, Blaine Anderson, and missed by many more.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 2:00p at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
