Kathleen “Kay” Sarabin (nee Dolhan), resident of Lakeview Seniors Lodge in Clairmont, formerly of Spirit River, AB, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, at the age of 86 years.
Kay was born to Steven and Mary Dolhan at Yellowcreek, AB, on April 22, 1932. She was the youngest of six children.
After her father passed, Kay and her mother moved to Spirit River, where she worked for the Dr. Laventure family, The Spirit River Hospital Laundry with her sister Verna, and Spirit River Hotel Café where she met Bill Sarabin. They married on November 10, 1949. Kay and Bill then moved to the Dolhan Homestead where they mixed farmed for the next 33 years. They retired and moved to Spirit River in 1983.
Kay and Bill enjoyed traveling, puzzles, and their family. Bill passed in 2005 and Kay tended to her garden and house. She enjoyed helping with Communities in Bloom, singing with the Ukrainian Choir, and her trips and Sunday suppers with friends.
After an illness in 2017, she decided to move to Lakeview Seniors Lodge in Clairmont where she enjoyed making new friends, doing puzzles, and singing.
She will be sadly missed by her niece Sherry (Dennis) Zaichkowsky; great-nephew Kyle (Melonie) and children Linden and Alexandra; great-nephew Devin (Channelle) and children Jace, Blakely, and Brooks; great-niece Kaley (Kyle) Chabot and children Gracee and Tyson; niece Marie (Gerard) Boytinck and her children Leanne, Lavern, Trevor, Lori and families; great-niece Paula Tessier and family; great-niece Leea Andruchiw; nephew Douglas (Karen) Sarabin and family; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Kay was predeceased by her husband William Sarabin; parents Steven and Mary Dolhan; brothers Mike, George, and Charles; sisters Sophie and Verna; nephew Charles Andruchiw; and niece Rose-Marie Andruchiw.
A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019, at 7:30pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:00am, at Spirit of Peace United Church in Spirit River (4902 45 Ave.).
