It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother Gwen Eleanor Melnyk. She passed away peacefully at the QEII Hospital with her family by her side on Monday, October 8, 2018, at the age of 86 years.
Gwen began her life journey in Pouce Coupe, BC and was raised in Tupper Creek and on a farm south of Beaverlodge (Halcourt), where she had a happy childhood with her six sisters and four brothers.
In 1949, she felt lured to Edmonton where she met her husband and married in 1952.
Gwen was a very gentle soul, caring, compassionate, and could see the humour in anything and always made us laugh. She loved to travel and was talented and creative in many areas, especially quilting.
She will be deeply missed by her children: Barb, Jo-ann (Terry), Lori (David), and Bob (Gail); 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters: Rhoda, Bonnie, and Karen (Le); brothers: Dale (Joan) and Bud (Deanna); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband Wally, parents Bessie and James Willard; sister: Kozey, Jean and Maxine; and brothers Gerald and Merton.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday October 15, 2018, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Viewing will be held prior at 10:00am. Interment to follow the service at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave. & 112th St.).
Memorial donations may be made to Breast Cancer Society of Canada (420 East St., North Sarnia, ON, N7T 6Y5).
