Claude Walter Guy Lagace, longtime resident of Sexsmith, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 29, 2018, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 66 years.
Claude was completely dedicated to his family and community. For the past eleven years, Claude served as Mayor of the Town of Sexsmith. Previously, he was a Councilor for the Town of Sexsmith for nine years. Claude was actively involved in numerous community organizations including chair of the Grande Spirit Foundation, member of Citizens on Patrol, and represented Sexsmith as a shareholder for Aquatera since the town joined the utility.
Claude was instrumental in the development of many projects in Sexsmith including the medical clinic, spray park, fire hall and, most recently the Lakeview Seniors Home in Clairmont among countless others. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, for his dedicated service to his community.
Claude’s dedication to his community was rivaled only by his commitment to his family. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of almost 45 years Noreen Lagace; daughters: Michelle (Richard) Wallace and Laurie (Darby) Olson; grandchildren: Lia and Lauren Wallace, and Becker, Reid and Coyne Olson; and siblings: Norman, Jacques (Claudette), Ghislaine, Remy (Shonna), Gilles (Debby), Camille (Lisa), Richard (Glenna), Sara and their families.
He was predeceased by his mother Francoise, father Richard, and siblings Andre (Clara) and Rhea. The loss that is felt in his family and community is immeasurable.
A Memorial celebrating Claude’s life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 1:00pm at the Peace River Bible Institute Auditorium in Sexsmith (9601 100 St.).
