Grande Prairie’s Stoby wins big at Prestige Fighting Championship

Dec 10, 2019 | 9:44 AM

Grande Prairie’s Ian Stoby participated and won this past weekend at the Prestige Fighting Championship in Fort McMurray, defeating Christian Breingan by unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27, 30-26 in the 158-pound weight class.

The fight was sanctioned by Wood Buffalo Combative Sports Commission, as it is the only combative sports commission in Canada that regulates U-18 fighters according to the Canadian Combat Alliance. The fight was sanctioned under K1 kickboxing rules.

This was Ian’s first fight on the Prestige card. He had previously competed in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation U-18 youth tournament in Rome this past summer.

There is a chance that Ian will be back on the Prestige card, but they will have to wait and see if they can find an opponent for him. Ian has been invited by the CCA (Canadian Combat Alliance) to represent Canada again at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Youth World Championships in August 2020.

Ian trains out of Champion Gym and Gladiators MMA.
