Truck plows into Red Deer business

Dec 10, 2019 | 10:12 AM

One person was taken to hospital after a pickup truck crashed into a business in north Red Deer Monday morning.

The crash at Vibe Car Audio (77 Street and Gaetz Avenue) happened at about 10:40 a.m.

Emergency crews arrived on scene and had to pull the truck out of the building using a winch in order to get the driver out.

Red Deer Emergency Services Assistant Deputy Chief Damian LaGrange says they don’t believe the crash was caused by weather or road conditions, and he didn’t rule out a medical episode experienced by the driver.

“We had quite a number of MVCs Monday morning. Not that this incident was due to road conditions, but we ask people to slow down, and when you see us, give us a safe area to work in,” he says.

The medical status of the driver, who was the truck’s lone occupant, is unknown.

LaGrange adds that the building was assessed for structural integrity, and they believe it is still sound.
