Dec 16, 2019 | 12:42 PM

Two people are facing charges for drug and weapons offences, after Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a suspicious persons complaint in a rural area of Sexsmith.

Just after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, RCMP received a call from a resident, saying an unfamiliar car was at the end of a driveway, and one of the two occupants had asked for help moving the vehicle, which was stuck.

The resident was suspicious of the pair, and contacted the RCMP.

Officers arrived on the scene, located the car in the ditch, and identified the male and female occupants of the vehicle.

Further investigation led police to locating 52 grams of methamphetamine, 18 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of cannabis, a loaded shotgun, ammunition, and brass knuckles.

Marrisa LaLonde (34) of Peace River, has been charged with:

– Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
– Possession of a prohibited weapon
– Unsafe transport of a firearm
– Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
– Possession of government issued documents
– Three counts of failure to comply with recognizance

Kevin McCrea (31), also of Peace River, has been charged with

– Unsafe transport of a firearm
– Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
– Four counts of failure to comply with recognizance

The pair are due to appear in court on January 6, 2020.

The RCMP thanks the resident for providing information to the police, saying this situation demonstrates the crucial role the public plays in keeping communities safe.
