Keillor out as Head Coach of Storm

The Grande Prairie Storm have announced they have relieved Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Keillor of his duties, effective immediately.

The news comes ahead of the team’s final home game before the Christmas break tonight against the Whitecourt Wolverines.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make; Matt played an integral role in bringing the Storm back to the playoffs, developing our team, and recruiting young talent,” said Mark Bomersback, General Manager of the Storm in a release. “We take pride in the program we are developing here in Grande Prairie, and we feel this is the best decision for our organization moving forward.”

Keillor took over as Head Coach of the Storm midway through the 2016-2017 season. He led the team to 3 straight playoff berths during his tenure.

Ryan Aasman, who has served as the team’s Assistant Coach this season, will take over Head Coaching duties on an interim basis. Bomersback will fill in as an Assistant Coach for the time being.

“We have full confidence in Aasman,” said Bomersback. “We are looking forward to watching the development of our players with him as Head Coach for the remainder of the season.”
