Storm travel south for three games before Christmas break

Dec 20, 2019 | 12:09 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm close out the unofficial first half of the season this weekend, with three straight road games against the Brooks Bandits, Olds Grizzlys and Calgary Canucks.

The team is coming off a whirlwind day on Tuesday that saw assistant coach Ryan Aasman take over as the interim head coach, following the dismissal of Matt Keillor on Tuesday.

Later that day, the Storm also picked up a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Whitecourt Wolverines, that saw Cade Mason score the game winner with just 19 seconds left.

With three games remaining before the Christmas break, Mason and Aasman spoke about what the team has to do before going into the break.

“We’re pretty eager to get home, but we have to remember that we still have three games left and we want to end on a high note going into the second half,” said Mason.

“I think the biggest thing is being able to prepare ourselves to play three really hard games.” Said Aasman. “We’re playing Brooks whose obviously the top team in the league, but for us to go into Olds, and Calgary that close to the Christmas break, it’s on us as a staff to try to keep them focused and executing to end the break on a high.”

The Storm head into this weekend having picked up points in six of their last seven games. They currently sit sixth in the AJHL North division with 29 points (13-16-3).

Puck drop for tonight’s game is 7:00 p.m. in Brooks. The game can be streamed on Hockey TV.
