Father formally charged in Brule Amber Alert case

Dec 24, 2019 | 7:02 AM

The father of the 14-month-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert last week has now been formally charged by Hinton RCMP with several criminal counts.

41-year-old Cody Shane Armstrong is charged with choking while committing an assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The Amber Alert went out about 3:45 a.m. Friday for Waylon Armstrong, after authorities said he was taken from his father’s home in the hamlet of Brule, near Hinton.

RCMP later said that Cody had a rifle with him when he left his house with the boy.

On Friday afternoon, the RCMP said the home had been cleared, but the vehicle Cody had been driving was found back at the same location.

Later that afternoon, Cody surrendered to police at his home and Waylon was returned unharmed.

Cody Armstrong remains in custody and is set to appear in Hinton Provincial Court on Jan. 15.
