Dec 24, 2019 | 12:45 PM

One man has been charged after a vehicle and foot pursuit in Grimshaw.

On December 23, 2019, Peace Regional RCMP responded to a rural area after a vehicle had been reported stolen from a fenced compound area at a Grimshaw-area business. The stolen vehicle was spotted with a lone male occupant sleeping inside.

The male awoke as police approached and then drove over a deployed tire deflation device and collided with an occupied police vehicle.

The male then fled with the stolen vehicle toward Grimshaw on Highway 2 but was immobilized shortly after at the Grimshaw town site due to the tire deflation deployment.

The male occupant attempted to flee on foot but was arrested shortly after.

33-year-old Michael Jeffrey Ginter of Grande Prairie is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Operation of a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by a peace officer
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited from doing so
  • Obstruction of a peace officer
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance
  • Six counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order
  • Three counts of mischief by damaging property

Ginter has been remanded into custody and is to appear in Peace River Provincial Court on January 13, 2020.
