Major Midget Storm fall late in opener of Mac’s Midget Invitational

Ethan Aucoin scored on a breakaway with just 57 seconds remaining for the Calgary Northstars, giving them a 4-3 win over the GPAC Ernie’s Sports Midget AAA Storm in the opener of the Mac’s Midget Invitational Hockey Tournament Thursday morning in Calgary.

Aucoin, who is an affiliate player for the AJHL Storm, finished the game with a hat trick, as he opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first period, giving the Northstars a 2-0 lead after the first.

The Storm would answer with a goal of their own to make it 2-1 after two.

The team’s would then trade goals early in the third. Ryan Nolan would make it 3-1 for Calgary, before Clayton Brown would bring the Storm back within one.

The Storm would tie the game with 7:50 to go, but would ultimately fall late to open the tournament with a loss.

The Storm will look to rebound when they take on the Saskatoon Contacts on Friday in their second of four round robin games. Puck drop is at 2:30 p.m.
