Aquatera is doing what it can to help get rid of holiday waste

Along with bringing joy and cheer, the holiday season can also produce a lot of waste.

Brittany Trudeau, the Communications and Marketing Specialist with Aquatera, says they are doing what they can to help residents properly dispose of their trash that accumulated over the holidays.

“So curbside collection moved forward starting December 26, in lieu of the holidays. So we are doing collection on Saturday, so if, this week, if your collection is usually on a Friday, it will be on Saturday.”

The amount of waste an average household produces tends to increase by nearly 25% during the holidays, and Trudeau says there are ways of properly disposing of the trash.

“Recycling: you can definitely bring it to the eco-centre. There is no limit for blue-bags that you can place curbside, so you can do that. So, we always just encourage people to always try to recycle it. For any garbage, if you have more than fills in your landfill cart, you can always purchase bag tags. Those are available at Aquatera for purchase as well. They’re three dollars each.”

Along with collecting trash, Aquatera will be collecting Christmas trees between Monday, January 6, and Friday, January 24.

“So please just ensure that your tree is cut down to no longer than four feet. You can place the tree at no more than one metre from your landfill cart, and put it out at 7 a.m., just like you do with normal collection. We just ask that you ensure all lights, decorations, tinsel and ornaments are removed. And we are accepting two trees per household.”

Trudeau adds that christmas trees can also be brought to the landfill, where they will be disposed of for free.
