Local hockey leagues, teams make their returns from holiday break

NWJHL

The County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings return to action for the first time tonight since December 20. The team is in Fort St. John to take on the Huskies tonight, puck drop at 8:00 p.m. Tomorrow they will travel to Dawson Creek to face the Junior Canucks, which also starts at 8.

The team returns from the Christmas break having lost back-to-back games against the third place Fairview Flyers, where they gave up a combined 15 goals in those two games.

Before that the Kings were playing their best hockey of the season. They had won six straight games and defeated some of the top teams in the NWJHL.

The Kings currently sit in fifth place in the league with a record of 10-13-0-2 with 22 points.

NPHL

The Grande Prairie Athletics are back in action tonight as they hit the road to take on the Manning Comets. Puck drop at 8:30 p.m.

The Athletics played their last game before the break on December 19, where they won a 7-6 overtime thriller against Dawson Creek.

The Athletics currently sit in first place with a 9-0-1 record with 19 points.

They’ll return home to the Coke Centre on Saturday to take on the Falher Pirates. Puck drop at 8:30 p.m.

AMHL

Following their trip to the Mac’s Midget AAA tournament in Calgary, the Grande Peace Ernies Sports Major Midget Storm are on the road for two games starting on Saturday.

They travel to Lloydminster to take on the Bobcats on Saturday and on Sunday they’ll travel to Fort Saskatchewan to face the Rangers.

The team has won two in a row in league play.

AMMHL

The Boston Pizza Minor Midget AAA Storm are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Edmonton for a pair of games.

On Saturday they’ll face the fifth place South Side Athletic Club Bulldogs.

On Sunday they’ll take on the last place Maple Leafs Athletic Club. The Leafs sit three points back of the Storm.

The Storm’s last win came against the very same Leafs back on December 7.

AMBHL

The GPAC Golden Arrow Bantam AAA Storm will also make the drive down to the Edmonton area to play a pair of games.

On Saturday they’ll take on the last place Maple Leaf Athletic Club and Sunday they’ll battle the Parkland County Saints.

The Storm are playing their first game since December 22, when they tied with the Fort Saskatchewan Huskies.

The Storm are sitting in first place in the Charger North Division with 27 points, one point ahead of Lloydminster.
