Four dead in Highway 36 collision, RCMP on scene

TABER, AB – UPDATE: Taber RCMP have provided some additional details on the four people who were killed in the collision.

As of 2:45 pm, officials were still on scene of a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 36, south of Secondary Highway 875.

Crews responded at around 7:15 a.m. Friday morning (Jan. 10) as a southbound pickup truck and a northbound passenger van collided.

The sole occupant of the truck, who has since been identified as a 31-year-old man from Saskatoon, Sask, was killed.

The driver and two passengers of the van were also pronounced deceased. Taber RCMP says the driver was a 26-year-old man from Camrose and the passengers were a 25-year-old man from Edmonton and a 29-year-old man from Medicine Hat.

Six passengers in the van were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries. Of the six, two sustained life-threatening injuries, one is in serious condition, and the other three sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The names of the deceased will not be released.
