Kings pick up big road win

Jeremy Niven’s goal with 1:47 left in regulation powered the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings to a 4-3 win in Peace River over the North Peace Navigators on Friday night.

Keaton Mercredi with two and Geoff Dick also scored for the Kings, who improved to 11-15-2 with the win.

Keegan Ferguson, Dawson Gour and Robert Lemay replied for the Navigators, who dropped nine points back of league leading Fort St John with the loss.

That’s because the Huskies hammered the Sundowwn Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers 10-0 on Friday.

League scoring leader Gary Loewen padded his stats on Friday, scoring twice and adding four assists, while Brady Marzocco also scored twice and added two assists for the Huskies.

Jared Winkel, Cayden Frenette, Nick Loewen, Alex Nimmo, Nils Nemec and Aiden Tegert also scored for Fort St John, while Tyler McArthur made 16 saves for his league leading 13th win of the season.

The other game saw Mason McLeod score at the 47 second mark of overtime to give Dawson Creek a 5-4 win over Fairview.

Mason Ducharme, Braden Streich, Brandon Rowley and Tanner Bahm also scored for the Junior Canucks, who moved two points ahead of the Flyers for third place in the league.

Kyle Cairns, Morgan Marusiak, Cale Fox and Thomas Dechant replied for Fairview.

There are three games scheduled for Saturday, including Dawson Creek visiting the County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings, North Peace in Fort St John and Fairview visiting Sexsmith.
